Wies de Boevé

Wies de Boevé is the first prizewinner of six international music competitions including the first prize and audience award at the ARD competition 2016, first prize at the Bottesini Competition 2017, as well as the first prize at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb 2015, being the first bass player ever to win this competition. Born in Belgium, he started his studies in Antwerpen and continued in Zürich with Duncan McTier. He became a member of the Berlin Philharmonics’ Karajan Academy  and finalized his studies  in Luzern with Božo Paradžik  and with Matthew McDonald in Berlin.

Wies is co-principal double bass of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra a regular guest player with among others the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam,the Vienna Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra.

He teaches at the Zurich University of Arts (ZHdK), the Orchestra Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and holds masterclasses throughout Europe.
